Purpose of the Role:

The Sr. Manager – ESH is responsible for leading and executing the Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESHQ) strategy for the Evonik India Research Hub (EIRH) in Thane. The role includes the development and enforcement of ESH policies, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and support for new investments and acquisitions in India.

Key Responsibilities:

ESHQ Operations & Leadership:

  • Develop and monitor ESHQ objectives, targets, and reporting systems
  • Manage site fire safety, hazardous waste disposal, water treatment systems (ETP/STP/WTP), and workplace monitoring
  • Maintain chemical inventories and implement approval systems
  • Oversee work permit systems, laboratory safety documentation, and feedback loops
  • Conduct safety drills, medical checks, and organize safety committee meetings
  • Evaluate JSAs and ensure compliance with ESTER (Evonik Standard Tool for ESHQ & Reporting)

Investment & Acquisition Due Diligence:

  • Support ESHQ due diligence for new investments and acquisition projects
  • Investigate and report major incidents
  • Collaborate with regional and corporate ESHQ teams across Asia Pacific

Cross-functional & Communication:

  • Lead internal audits and ensure follow-up of audit findings
  • Establish regional communication channels for sharing safety best practices
  • Act as ESHQ point-of-contact during emergencies, coordinating internal and external communication
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health & Environment / Chemical Engineering / Chemistry or equivalent
  • Experience: 10–12 years of relevant ESHQ work experience, including regulatory affairs and EHS audits
  • Certifications: Preferred but not mandatory (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO certifications)
Key Skills:
  • Knowledge of Indian regulatory and environmental standards
  • Experience dealing with government departments and regulatory bodies
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and team collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders and remote teams
  • High level of ownership in leading safety strategy across operations
