About the Role
MillerKnoll is seeking a Manhattan Active Omni (MAO) Software Engineer – Retail to join our Digital Engineering & Platforms team. In this role, you will own and support existing customizations while scoping, designing, and configuring new features within our retail systems. Your primary focus will be on Manhattan Active Order Management (MAO) and its associated integrations across POS, OMS, and WMS platforms. This role supports global divisions across MillerKnoll, requiring strong technical expertise, collaboration with stakeholders, and the ability to deliver scalable retail solutions using agile methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer – Retail, you will:
- Develop and integrate digital-first retail solutions to meet growing customer demand.
- Configure, customize, and optimize Manhattan Active Omni Order Management features for scalability and efficiency.
- Partner with stakeholders to adopt best practices and maximize platform capabilities.
- Contribute to design, configuration, and technical analysis efforts, ensuring alignment across OMS, POS, and WMS systems.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, code reviews, cross-training) using Jira for workflow tracking.
- Review bugs/issues with Product Managers & Business Analysts, and design solutions for non-standard requirements.
- Maintain documentation for customizations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
- Assist in user training sessions and provide guidance on SCI reporting.
- Support system testing, deployments, and security audits with appropriate reporting.
- Troubleshoot escalated issues and propose well-considered technical solutions.
- Collaborate with Manhattan Associates stakeholders (PSO Directors, Account Executives) to ensure strategic alignment.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5–7 years’ overall experience, including 3–5 years of proven Manhattan Active Omni expertise in real-world retail environments.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience configuring/customizing MAO Order Management.
- Experience with retail systems such as POS, OMS, WMS, and related integrations.
Technical Skills

Deep knowledge of microservices applications and MAO best practices.

Expertise in MAO functional areas:
- Enterprise Inventory & Availability
- Order Routing & Allocation
- Fulfilment Optimization
- Payment Processing & Invoicing
- Pricing, Promotions, Taxes
- Customer Service Operations
- Java proficiency for managing/troubleshooting extensions.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases, and integration tools (Postman, REST, OpenAPI, gRPC).
- Proven experience with third-party integrations (payment gateways, tax services, gift card providers).
- Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, XML, JSON, version control, SOAP, REST/oData.
- Understanding of SOX and PCI compliance.
