Purpose of the Role
The Head of Tax – India is responsible for driving Evonik’s tax strategy, compliance, planning, and risk management across all legal entities in the India Region (excluding Bangladesh and Insilco Ltd). This includes leadership over direct and indirect taxes, transfer pricing, tax audits, litigation, and internal tax reporting.
This position ensures tax governance, drives efficiencies, and serves as a strategic business partner while aligning with group tax policies and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Direct & Indirect Tax Management
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all tax regulations (Corporate Tax, WHT, GST, etc.)
- Lead tax audits (income tax, GST) and timely filing of annual returns
- Handle complex tax assessments, rectifications, appeals, refunds, and litigation
- Ensure tax compliance for all foreign entities operating in India
- Coordinate with government portals for filings and updates
Leadership & Governance
- Lead the India tax team; guide cross-functional collaboration
- Build strong relationships with consultants, advisors, and authorities
- Develop internal tax policies, risk controls, and knowledge-sharing platforms
- Champion best-in-class tax governance and digitalization of tax workflows
Key Requirements
- Chartered Accountant (CA) with minimum 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience
- Extensive leadership experience in tax function of a multinational or large Indian enterprise
- Strong knowledge of Indian tax laws (Direct, Indirect, TP) and regulatory landscape
- Proven experience handling tax litigations, audits, assessments, and advisory roles
- Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder management, and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA is an added advantage
- Strong communication and analytical thinking abilities
